Newly opened, Sobremesa lands in Souk Al Bahar as the city’s newest cosy, fun, dining destination, bringing together the energy of Mexico and Spain with Dubai’s love for long evenings. More than a bar or restaurant, it’s a celebration of staying a little longer, talking a little more, and letting time melt into good company.
Conceived by hospitality innovators Daniil Chakmin and Hekim Setdarov, Sobremesa is built for guests who appreciate quality without formality. At its centre sits an agave-led bar that hums with personality, conversation and the warm glow of a venue designed to feel lived-in from day one.
And just outside, Sobremesa’s tranquil terrace awaits – a sun trap by day, golden and serene by dusk perfect for slow afternoons, sipping cocktails outdoors, or enjoying a cigar as the water glimmers below.
A Menu Designed for Lingering
In true sobremesa fashion, the food is crafted to be shared, explored, and enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Every dish blends Mexican comfort with Spanish flair, with an emphasis on freshness, fire, and playful richness.
Guests can begin with the Crispy Octopus Salad – Spanish octopus nestled into baby greens with creamy avocado, bright grapefruit and soft queso fresco, creating a refreshing lift to start the meal.
The taco trio, each pressed in-house, brings its own personality. The Baja-Style Fish Taco pairs crispy hamour with pico de gallo, chipotle mayo and queso fresco for a sunny, seaside bite. The Grilled Chicken Taco is all warmth and colour, with achiote-marinated chicken thigh, grilled pineapple and cool avocado salsa. The BBQ Duck Carnitas Taco brings depth and indulgence, with shredded duck leg, chipotle BBQ, jalapeño aioli and pickled onions layered into the tortilla.
From the grill, the menu leans into generous plates meant for sharing. The Whole Grilled Seabass is served with tomatillo salsa, fresh herbs and lime, a bright, aromatic centrepiece of the table. The Bone-In Ribeye arrives charred and juicy, accompanied by smoky padrón peppers, chimichurri and fresh lime – a dish built for slow enjoyment. Meanwhile, the Duck Leg Confit with silky mole poblano, Mexican rice and warm flour tortillas offers a comforting, earthy richness that anchors the meal.
Dessert keeps the evening soft and sweet. The Churros come dusted with cinnamon and cardamom, served with warm chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream – with a special recommendation to enjoy it with a pour of Pedro Ximenez Jerez. The Tres Leches Cake is light and indulgent all at once, soaked in sweet milk and topped with whipped cream and seasonal berries.
The Bar Where the Night Begins
The beverage team lead an unapologetically agave-forward bar programme that pulses with fun, mischief, and modern craft. Mezcals, tequilas and Spanish Jerez form the backbone, with cocktails made to surprise and delight.
The Electric Paloma crackles with energy, mixing mezcal, electric flowers, blood orange, ginger and CO₂. The S**ito Margarita blends Patrón Reposado with tonka bean, watermelon and nori for a salty-sweet twist. The Padre Spritz is light and aromatic, combining mandarin distillate, Jerez, Moroccan tea, cava and olive CO₂.
Signature shots including Creamy Lime and Mandarin Lemongrass – keep the energy playful, while non-alcoholic drinks like the Señora and Needles deliver the same creativity without the spirits.
A Cosy, Fun, Vibe’y Space Built to Glow
Designed by award-winning DA Bureau, Sobremesa’s interiors are intimate but alive. Charred timber sculptures recall fireside gatherings, sparks seem to dance along the bar, and a glowing digital sun casts a warm hue over the room. It’s sensual without being showy, stylish without being stiff: an inviting, lived-in ambience meant for long evenings and even longer conversations.
The Ritual
Every visit begins with a playful welcome: a tasting pour of Tequila or Mezcal alongside Sangrita, offered with your order. Rotating monthly with different agave partners, it’s an introduction to heritage, craft and a hint of mischief—the true spirit of Sobremesa.
A Word From the Team
General Manager Andrey Kryuchkov shares:
“Sobremesa is unpretentious, warm and full of character. We wanted to build a place where people feel at home instantly: where the food is great, the drinks are bold, and the atmosphere encourages you to stay just a little longer. It’s cosy, fun and full of vibe that’s the heart of Sobremesa.”
